After two playoff losses by the Denver Nuggets, George Karl’s postgame interviews have become entertaining media. After Game 1, he waited 15 seconds before uttering these words.
“They have the best closer (meaning Kobe) in the game.” After losing Game 3, he waited nine seconds and said these words.
“Each playoff game takes on a different meaning. We now have to win two in L.A. and one here.”
Karl’s befuddling interviews have mirrored his befuddling, game plan in allowing Kobe Bryant to rack up 114 points. His befuddling interviews have mirrored his team’s inability to inbound a pass after a timeout which have made Trevor Ariza into an All-Defensive First Teamer.
Denver fans are waiting for what Coach Karl will do next. Will he allow for the Lakers to defend only three offensive players to their five by making Kenyon Martin and Nene Hilario be the prodominate scorers? Will he allow J.R. Smith to again shoot the Nuggets into a defeat, commit costly turnovers and be victimized by “The Black Mamba?”
Or will he accept reason and play Linas Kleiza major minutes off the bench? Will he play Chris “The Birdman” Andersen major minutes on weak-side defense? Will he begin the game and throughout the game play a destructive press that should blow up Phil Jackson’s and Tex Winter’s vaunted Triangle Offense?
