Early Saturday, Serena Williams won her third, Wimbeldon singles title and 11th major overall. She defeated her equally dominant, older sister, Venus in straight sets 7-6 and 6-2.
For a few years, Serena maintained her tennis excellence while managing her fashion design business and acting career. She and Venus had appearance in every Wimbeldon final, except one in the last decade.
With her victory, she achieved her career, Grand Slam and became the only active, female player to do so.
The current #1 suffered a crushing defeat at this year’s French Open. She also bowed out early during the Wimbeldon tournament.
World Tennis Association (WTA) rankings had Serena ranked #2 in the world even though she’d won three of the last four majors.
Did she deserve her #1 ranking a long time ago?
I made my argument.
