NFL's toughest quarterback is found dead!

Today, a hush befell downtown Nashville (TN) as police discovered two bodies inside a condomium nearby Titans Stadium.

The dead were an unidentified woman and three-time, Pro Bowl quarterback, Steve McNair. Initial investigations said that they each died from a gunshot wound to the head. A police spokesman also confirmed that no suspects existed at this time. In addition, the dead woman wasn’t McNair’s wife, Mechelle.

The former Tennessee Titan and Baltimore Raven quarterback recently retired from the NFL. He starred on Spike Television’s reality show, “Pros versus Joes” where former professional athletes competed against amateurs.

In 2000, McNair gained fame from his epic 4th Quarter against the St. Louis Rams during the Superbowl. His pass to Kevin Dyson fell five yards short of the game-winning touchdown. However, he earned league accolades for his mental and physical toughness.

After leaving the Titans, he was signed to the Baltimore Ravens. He endured a four, injury-riddled seasons and failed to lift his team to an extended, playoff run.

During his 13-year career, McNair threw over 200 touchdown passes. He was once known as “the toughest quarterback in the NFL”. His physique rivaled the linebackers and defensive ends who attempted to sack him every Sunday. In some games, he performed as Superman on the field. But, he was a humanitarian and gentleman off the field with his extensive, charity work for kids in Nashville and Baltimore and throughout the league.

In this case, “Superman” lost out to a speeding bullet.

I remember ”Air” McNair well... it’s so sad that celebrities all too often can’t deal with sudden fame or with retirement.

He was always a pleasure to watch on the field, even when he wasn’t having a ”good day”. I mourn his passing and wonder what happened.

”It’s so sad that celebrities all too often can’t deal with sudden fame or with retirement.”

He had a successful 13-year career in the NFL. After retiring, he was also a prominent businessman in Nashville and recently opened a family style restaurant in the downtown.

Michael, what happened was that he got involved with a 20 year old, gold digger who was probably more trouble than she was worth. A week ago, she was arrested for DUI when she refused to take a breathlizer test after getting pulled over. McNair had his little ”pyt” (pretty, young thing) and bought her a 2007 Escalade when police stopped her. She probably killed him herself or had him killed because he threatened to break up with her and cut off the money.

McNair was guilty of using bad judgment in dating someone immature and emotionally unstable. He didn’t have a reaction to his ”sudden fame” and ”retirement”.

Then I feel very sorry for him and his family. I meant no disrespect, and I do mourn his death.

We don’t get news of this sort in our media, you see– this was the first I heard of it. We rarely get to hear the whole story, only the tragic ends with a lot of commentary after the fact. American football rarely gets a mention here– most of what we get is soccer from around the world– and that’s full of sad stories, as well.

Those soccer stories usually involve drunk, rowdy thugs in the stands fighting and rioting. Of course, those melees lead to some stampede or crush that end up killing 30 people or more.

Those stories are pretty sad and pretty stupid. They’re all over rivalries between England and Ireland, Italy and whatever and Latin American countries. You can’t enjoy sports when you allow hooligans and ruffians to get liquored up who then act up.

I agree with this completely. More than once, I’ve pointed out that these things don’t happen in the US, no matter how strong team rivalries might be.
