March madness office pools come full circle!

March Madness has arrived at its home stretch. The men’s and women’s Roads to the Final Four are set with eight teams vying for two NCAA National Titles. We have four #1 seeds, and two, #2 seeds in both tournaments with no Cinderellas! The match ups are as follows.

For the men’s bracket:

Big East favorite, UCONN faces off against Big Ten regular-season champion, Michigan State. The determined, Jim Calhoun goes after the feisty, Tom Izzo in a virtual home game at Detroit, Michigan’s Ford Field.

In the second matchup, Big East upstart, Villanova battles title favorite, North Carolina. After their thrilling, last-second victory over rival Pittsburgh, the Wildcats take on Ty Lawson, Tyler Hansbourgh and celebrated coach, Roy Williams. Despite Villanova’s lengthy history, this is David versus Goliath!

For the women’s bracket:

The first battle pits another, Big East surprise in Louisville against Big 12 favorite, Oklahoma. This game is Courtney Parris’s to lose. She has promised to pay back her $64,000 scholarship if her team fails to capture their first, national title. However, Oklahoma faces a dangerous underdog who defeated 2006 champion, Maryland last week. Louisville has surpassed all expectations. They have defied every critic; including ESPN’s Kara Lawson. But, defying critics and proving people wrong isn’t enough. Now, it’s winning time! All of that talk will be for naught, if the Sooners bulldoze their way to Wednesday night!

In the nightcap, two of college basketball’s juggernaut engage in Saint Louis. Five-time champion and undefeated, UCONN takes on the Stanford University. Coach Geno Auriemma has to defeat the last college that has defeated him. The Cardinals knocked the Huskies out in last year’s Final Four 82-74. This year, their all-American center, Jayne Appel is poised to tear through UCONN interior just like she did to Ohio State (Sweet 16) and Iowa State (Elite 8).

UCONN looks to add a third, title to an undefeated season. And, they’re also challenging history as college basketball’s most dominant, undefeated champion ever!!!

WHO WILL WIN? WHO WILL BE CROWNED KING AND QUEEN?

It’s going to be a long while before anyone catches up to Coach Wooden’s contributions to UCLA’s record. But even more impressive than that, is how the State of California holds 15 national championships by three different schools in a period of only 53 years! That’s a Championship every 3.5 years! Incredible!

The women will do their part to repeat the 2004 dual championships for UConn. The men I'm not so sure about.

As impressive as California’s achievement, what about Connecticut’s? They weren’t considered a sports state at all. From 1995-2008, UCONN teams captured seven national titles! If they get two more in 2009, that’ll be nine championships in 13 years!! They’re almost considered ”Bill Russell” successful at winning!!!
