Late Wednesday night, Anaheim Angels pitcher, Nick Adenhart put on clinic in keeping an offensive off-balance.
After his six inning, shutout performance against the Oakland A’s, the elated, 22 year-old hurler said.
“For the first time, I felt I belonged in the major leagues.” Six hours after his greatest triumph, Adenhart was dead.
He was dead along with two others from a head-on collision with a drunken driver. A fourth victim remained in critical condition at a California hospital.
Adenhart and three others traveled home after a night of dancing. Their silver Mitsubishi met a speeding minivan driven by 22 year-old, Andrew Thomas Gallo. Apparently, Gallo’s vehicle ran a red light. He hit the Mitsubishi broadside and spun it around. He also spun around in the intersection. But, he suffered no injuries and was able to flee on foot. However, no one left the crushed Mitsubishi.
Emergency personnel saw a horrific scene. The car was crushed and mangled. Adenhart and another passenger were rushed to a nearby hospital. Two other victims were declared dead at the scene.
Gallo was captured 30 minutes later. Officers did a field test and determined his blood-alcohol level was “substantially over the legal limit”. Adenhart died in surgery a short time later. He was a passenger in a drunk-driving accident that claimed three victims.
In a blink of an eye, three promising futures were snuffed out. Two were changed forever. Authorities charged Gallo with felony, hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter and driving on a suspended license. But, additional charges, including murder and leaving the scene of an accident still loomed.
The Angels postponed tonight’s game with Oakland. All of major league baseball observed a moment of silence.

I don't understand how people can be so stupid and selfish. It's pretty much always the innocent people that get hurt the most...
