It was yet another school shooting tragedy.
A 17 year-old gunman went into his former, high school in Stuttgart, Germany and shot 15 students dead. There were many others injured in the brazen attack. The assailant fled to a nearby town called Winnenden (pop. 28,000) before police gunned him down.
During the chaos, students were seen jumping from windows to escape gunfire. Witnesses reported hearing shots around 8:00 AM. Administrators, security and police evacuated 1,000 students and other faculty by 9:30. The area was then cordoned off as a crime scene.
The Albertville assault was Germany’s worst school shooting since 2002. A 19 year-old male entered a high school; killing 12 teachers, two students, a secretary and a police officer before committing suicide. That incident precipitated a law which raised the minimum age to own recreational firearms from 18 to 21.
Unfortunately, that measure failed to save the 15 or so students from this latest massacre.
