Boston Massacred!

Tickets to Yankee Stadium: $1200. One Beer and a Hot Dog at Yankee Stadium: $20

The value of three, all-star acquisitions in a four-game sweep of Boston: Priceless

Tonight, the New York Yankees may have sown up the AL East Division with their historic, four-game demolition of the Boston Red Sox.

Their 5-2 victory included stifling Boston hitters for 31 consecutive, scoreless innings. In tonight’s game, Victor Martinez was almost a hero with his two-run home run in the 8th inning. However, Red Sox rookie reliever, Daniel Bard gave up back to back homeruns to Johnny Damon and Mark Texieria. Reliever, Hideki Okijima gave up two more runs. Yankee closer, Mariano Riveria got the save and pitcher, Phil Coke the win.

Alex Rodriguez slammed his fifth homerun after the seven inning to give the Yankees a lead. He jumped up to ninth place with 574 homeruns overall (21 this year).

This series signified Boston’s weakest offense output in 50 years. Their 31 consecutive shutout innings was the longest scoring drought since being blanked three, straight games by the Texas Rangers in 1982. They scored only six runs in all four games.

Their pitching also suffered. Red Sox relievers surrendered 15 runs to the Yankees four. Also, they fell to 6 1/2 games back of the division lead. Plus, they fell a 1/2 game back of the Wild Card leading, Texas Rangers.

The Yankees spit in the face of America’s recession by picking up three, all-star caliber players. They spent $423 million on acquiring C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Mark Teixeria.

Sabathia and Burnett combined to throw 14 2/3 scoreless innings and Teixeria came up real big offensively and played stellar defense.

With them in first place for good, their fans won’t mind the ridiculous ticket and food prices for home games.
